■Environmentally Friendly System and Printing "GREEN eyeTM"
We at EINS Corporation are proposing GREEN eyeTM, environmentally friendly waterless printing with greenhouse gas carbon credits. This system integrates "carbon offsets" the system of reducing CO2 emissions from papermaking through to final delivery of printed matter originated by the Japan Waterless Printing Association (WPA) with "waterless printing" that is steadily gaining ground as a low environmental impact printing system.
※ GREEN eyeTM calculates the amount of CO2 emissions based on LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) using the PGG simulation software certified by the Japan Environmental Management Association For Industry (JEMAI) and combines that amount of CO2 emissions into the "carbon offset" system and waterless printing via the Carbon Offset Japan (COJ) organization.
※The carbon credit purchasing amount is the actual non-profit purchasing cost in accordance with the contract with COJ.
■What is "Carbon Offset?"
Carbon offset is a financial instrument designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases. Offsets are typically achieved by financially supporting clean energy projects around the world, such as tree planting and forestry projects, that will help contribute to the prevention of global warming.
◆Example of CO2 reductions by carbon offsets using GREEN eyeTM
|
|
In the case of A2 double-sided printing Production of 50,00 printed copies equates to emission of about 0.8 tons of CO2.
|
|
|
※CO2 emissions of about 16 g/copy
※Carbon credits are purchased in single metric ton units.
※Based on LCA, including recycling of printing plates and paper after bookbinding, in addition to production of raw materials (paper, ink/varnish, water and additives=not used this time, printing plates) - processing (platemaking, printing, bookbinding) - transportation - disposal (disposal by consumer). Excluding the influence of lighting/air conditioning equipment in equipment installation rooms in production sites (electrical power consumption per hour in press room in question: approx. 4 kWh), indirect departments (R&D, offices, sales) and consumer use.
※The above numerical values were calculated using PGG or the "Printing Goes Green ver1.1" simulation software for calculating CO2 emissions in the production of printed matter certified by the Japan Environmental Management Association For Industry (JEMAI).
■How Carbon Offset Works
Various procedures are required for conducting carbon offsets that we are officially bound to do. It is the role of the Carbon Offset Japan (COJ) organization to execute these procedures reliably as a specialist on behalf of the customer. GREEN eyeTM calculates the amount of CO2 emissions generated up to finishing and delivering the customer's printed matter, acquires carbon credits (sold in single metric ton units) to cover these emissions via COJ, and transfers these credits to a Japanese government account. By doing so, carbon offsets are factored into Japan's CO2 emission reduction target outlined in the Kyoto Protocol. Currently, various projects are under way around the world to reduce greenhouse gases. The carbon credits acquired by COJ are approved by the United Nations and are being put to use in carbon offsets.

■Issue of Certificates
When GREEN eyeTM is used, a Carbon Offset Contract Certificate is issued from COJ, and an official Carbon Offset Certificate is issued from the end of the fiscal year (March 31st) onwards.
|
 |
■Use of Mark
The COJ Carbon Offset Certificate logo mark can be used on printed matter that uses GREEN eyeTM to show that your printed matter is environmentally friendly.
